Travis Atkinson, L.C.S.W., is the Director and Creator of the Loving at Your Best Plan. He has extensive training in marriage and couples therapy, based on over 25 years in practice, earning certificates from top-rated couples therapy models, including:

Travis has served on the Executive Board for the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST) as Media Coordinator since 2014, and is a Founding Member of the New York Center for Emotionally Focused Therapy (NYCEFT).

Travis has trained couples therapists nationally and internationally for more than 15 years, including multiple trainings in Italy, the Netherlands, and the New England Educational Institute in Cape Code, along with trainings in Russia, Austria, Scotland, and Spain.

Travis is the Founder and Director of the Schema Therapy Training Center of New York (STTC), conducting multiple trainings leading to certification in individual and couples therapy certifications. He was a supervisor and trainer at the Schema Therapy Institute in New York with Jeff Young, PhD, the founder of schema therapy, helping establish the original institute. Travis worked as a staff psychotherapist for Dr. Young at his Cognitive Therapy Center of New York from 1997 until 2010.

Travis is a co-author of the latest schema mode therapy inventory, the SMI. He is the co-author of two chapters in the just published “Creative Methods in Schema Therapy: Advances and Innovation in Clinical Practice (Routledge, 2020), and author of “Schema Therapy for Couples: Healing Partners in a Relationship” in the Handbook of Schema Therapy (Wiley-Blackwell, 2012).

Travis is featured as a panelist in an Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples training video for therapists working with Gay and Lesbian Couples with Sue Johnson, Ph.D., the founder of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. He holds two graduate degrees from New York University, one in Clinical Social Work (1995) and Management (1996).
